Always wanted to write audio drama? Start here
It's an exciting time to be writing for audio. 'Audiences and opportunities are growing across the genre, from the recent boom in scripted drama podcasts to BBC radio drama. But how do you get started? And how to do you ensure your work keeps your listener on the edge of their seat?
In this intensive one-day course at Faber’s HQ in central London, you’ll get hands-on teaching from Caroline Raphael, the former BBC Head of Radio Drama, to explore the fundamentals of creating compelling audio drama. You'll listen to and discuss exemplary examples of audio drama, and explore how audio storytelling allows you to play with elements like time, point of view, style and much more to craft a compelling narrative.
As well as writing exercises and discussion throughout the day, there will also be the chance to ask your tutor questions about how to break into writing for audio drama.

Is this the right course for me?
This course will introduce you to the fundamental tools and techniques of audio drama, and is for writers who are just starting to think about writing audio drama for radio or podcasts.
You don't need to have written anything at all before – just come along. We'll even provide a pen and notebook to get you started.

What is Audio Drama?
To begin, your tutor will introduce a range of different styles of audio drama for discussion. You'll explore some of the key tools you'll need to have as a writer of audio, as well as beginning to understand your own personal style as a writer of audio drama.

Starting Your Project?
In the afternoon, Caroline will guide the group through writing exercises, in which you'll bring your audio alive through sound, choice of location and ways of talking.
The day will finish with a Q&A about the audio drama industry with Caroline, so you'll leave the day with next steps in mind.

Faber’s office, The Bindery, is well connected by public transport, with Farringdon Station just five minutes’ walk away, and stops for several bus routes in the area too.
